Overall

4.4

Breckenridge is one of the most popular ski resorts in North America. Over a million and a half people visit every season, and it’s not hard to see why. A mecca for big mountain shredders and trick stomping freestylers, Breckenridge is all about the new school! When it comes to high alpine terrain, no-fall zone chutes, and wide open bowls, it tops every other ski area in Summit County. Nowhere else in North America gets you higher on a lift, with Breckenridge ski resort’s crowning glory the Imperial Express Super Chair whisking skiers and boarders up to 12,840 ft.

Best month to go

January

Thanks to its spot high up in the mountains, the ski season in Breckenridge usually lasts for around five months, from mid-November to mid-April. Slopes can be a bit patchy at the start and end of winter, but an extensive snow cannon network keeps the lower trails white for as long as it’s cold! As far as proper snowfall goes, it really starts cranking from January, tailing off by the end of March. Events like Ullr Fest and the International Snow Sculpture Championships are held in January, making that month an awesome time to visit. If there was ever a time not to visit Breckenridge, it’s the Christmas and New Year holidays, Martin Luther King Day, and Presidents’ Day. Crowds peak during these times, leading to monstrous lift queues and a spike in accommodation prices.

For beginners

Breckenridge has some of the best beginner skiing in Colorado. Check out the beginner terrain on the lower half of Peak 9 and base of Peak 8 or try out the speed-controlled Family Zones.

For intermediates

There's intermediate terrain across all the Peaks at Breckenridge but Peak 7 is where you'll find plenty of perfect corduroys and gently rolling runs. Take on Claimjumper for big sweeping turns down the mountain, it's our favorite for intermediates here!

For experts

Don't underestimate Breckenridge, it's got expert terrain well above the tree line (unlike many Colorado resorts!), slopes as steep as 55 degrees and vertical cornices you gotta drop over! Take on the Six Senses area for steep narrow chutes and cornices or drop into some epic bowls such as Serenity Bowl, Horseshoe Bowl or from the highest point in the resort at 12,998 ft, Snow White Bowl!

More experts tips

Find freshies

Breckenridge's high elevation keeps the snow nice and fresh, but it gets tracked out quickly so go to the hike-to terrain on Peaks 6, 8, 9 and 10 for freshest stuff.

Ditch the crowds

Head to Peak 6's Kensho Super Chair and Peak 10's Falcon Super Chair to escape the crowds.

Non skiers

Breckenridge has some of the best nightlife that will keep non-skiers partying all night long. There is also snowmobiling and dogsledding available too.

Families

For families with beginners, there are easy trails that access the ski-in/ski-out accommodation between Peak 8 and Peak 9, where you'll find beginner terrain on the lower half.

The resort always has reliable snow. The staff and crew are lively and awesome. Some of the best terrain in the country. Main Street in breckenridge is always a great time to end your day and grab some food and beers!

Tree runs here are by far my favorite, the whales tale bowl is also super tight!! The people who come here are usually awesome folks too. Would highly recommend giving this place a go!!

Usually crowded, and it's generally not worth the trouble. Most of the mountain is flat and boring, the parts that are not are at the top, and windblown and I see most of the time. It's a fun town, but the mountain is not all it's cracked up to be.

Great variety of terrain. Ski school is awesome and takes great care to educate the youth and non-experienced adults taking lessons. Great Apres Ski options with the town of Breck being right there. The one downside I see is parking. Unless you are at one of the condo units, parking can be a pain in the butt because of pricing. Overall, it's one of... More

The choices of which mountain to ride are plentiful. Personally, I prefer the blue runs and Peak 6 never disappoints. The Blacks are best if a foot or more of power is waiting. Get out there this winter!

Breckenridge has been our family favorite over the years with great terrain, fast lifts, and perfect snow every time. The town is always entertaining and has everything for the family. Can't wait to get back there this year.

Love this place, but it would be nice to have more bathrooms in the far off corners of the resort. I always found myself having to make a trip Into the Woods unless I'm on the main runs that are usually very crowded.

Breck has been the go to for this Colorado resident for nearly 40 years, and it keeps getting better with expanded terrain and faster lifts. I go there whenever I have my choice of resorts to spend with family and friends.

We absolutely adore Breck. Our family has skied here many years and it has become a home away from home for us. We love the locals and the atmosphere! I would live here if I could! Heck, maybe one day I will!

Breckenridge has awesome hike to terrain. It's a very nice mountain to ski provided there around 1000s of tourists. I avoid it around holidays, but otherwise always a fantastic time at Breck.
