Part of the Tres Valles (Three Valleys) of the Andes, El Colorado interconnects with neighboring La Parva, Valle Nevado, and the much smaller Farellones. While the on-piste advanced terrain might disappoint more experienced skiers and snowboarders, the slopes of El Colorado is perfect for beginners and intermediates. With cheaper accommodation and lift tickets than La Parva and Valle Nevado, El Colorado generally sees plenty of local crowds, making it a great destination for those looking to ski the Andes on a budget.

2018 Historical Snowfall

Best month to go

June and August

Avoid

July

June and August are the best months to visit El Colorado because the mountain is so high that snow will be kept in great conditions, especially the backside and June is the best month for powder. However, July is high season since it is the school winter holidays so it gets extremely busy.

For beginners

While never-evers could start off at El Colorado, the slopes at neighboring Farellones and Valle Nevado have slopes that are more suitable for learning on. Instead El Colorado is fantastic for beginners who have skied before but just need more practice. The mountain serves up plenty of wide open slopes for beginners that are particular great for making long turns. Start off on Colorado Chico Sur off the Colorado Chico lift before progressing onto Pingüino Norte or Pingüino Sur off the Pingüino lift, they're our favorites for beginners.

For intermediates

Intermediates will have a range of trails to choose from at El Colorado including a range of groomed runs. Take the Cóndor lift to access some of our favorite intermediate runs here such as Cóndor Norte and La Vega, Cóndor Sur IV and Cóndor Sur V.

For experts

El Colorado is more suitable for beginners and intermediates, so advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders might be left quite disappointed with black runs here. If we had to pick a run, it would have to be Cono Este, a steep slope that's great for racing down the mountain and has plenty of snow that is always well kept. If you're after steeper slopes, head to La Parva instead. Off-piste, the backcountry terrain is incredible and best to be explored with a guide.

Find freshies

As the slopes of El Colorado are more geared towards for beginners and intermediates there are less advanced skiers and snowboarders tracking out the more difficult terrain. On piste, the best spots to find freshies are on the black trails such as Cono Este. There is also great snow to be found on the sides of these trails.

Ditch the crowds

Since the resort is popular amongst beginners and intermediates, the easier terrain, especially around the Pingüino lift, can get quite crowded. Instead, it's best to stay on the mid and upper sections of the mountain such as around the top of Cóndor lift and Cornisa lift but don't venture down to the base of Cóndor as there will be crowds there too.

Non skiers

Non-skiers won't find much activities or attractions at El Colorado to keep them entertained. Nearby Farellones has a few activities such as tubing, zip lining, snow biking and sledding.

Families

The wide slopes at El Colorado are great for families who want to ski together, especially for those for who are or have beginners. While the resort is family-friendly with more affordable lift tickets than the other Tres Valles ski resorts, neighboring Valle Nevado has a larger variety of trails to suit all abilities.
