Light and dry Central Hokkaido powder is what skiers and snowboarders come to Furano for. In fact, the snow here is often better than at the more well-known Niseko (and without the crowds of foreign visitors too). While there are some westerners on the slopes, Furano makes for a much more authentic Japanese experience.

Never been to Hakuba, But spent a month between Furano and Niseko. Furano is utterly amazing. Little to no lift queues, fresh tracks everyday and just so, SO much powder. And off-piste is some of the best i've had!! It is an authentic small Japanese town experience. It is not a party town like niseko. Hardly anyone speaks english where as Niseko... More

#1 awesome snow. That's why you go to Japan. Were fortunate to stay at the base of the lift for very easy access. Would be a little trickier (ie: crowded bus) if you stay in town. This can limit dining options a bit, but still some good choices nearby. Decent amount of terrain for all levels. Easily accessible side-country is a big plus. There... More

Huge, fun, fast and pow. Furano caters for most on piste users with plenty of runs and some great powder after some snow. Best trip there we had nipple deep powder for the first few runs but unfortunately it got tracked out fairly quickly. Great resort but high amount of people.... More

Furano is a relief after skiing at Niseko. There are so much fewer westerners here and people in general. The tree skiing is amazing and the access is so easy. We spent almost an entire day skiing lines under ONE LIFT and were getting fresh almost every turn. Definitely worth a visit if you're traveling around Hokkaido. Very close to Daisetsuzan... More

Furano is a true Japanese snow experience. Diverse terrain with world class powder minus the crowds and plenty of great food to be had. Staff on and off the hill are very friendly and accomodation can still be had at a fantastic rate. Two thumbs up.... More

We skied and boarded at Furano again this year and despite locals telling us that it wasn't a good snow year the cover was still meters deep and we had plenty of bone dry powder days. In fact, the snow conditions were blissful. It snowed a little almost every day and despite that I think we had a little sunshine every day as well. What a great... More
