A somewhat small ski area with just a few runs, Cataloochee is the perfect place to learn or to simply refresh your skills before venturing to larger ski resorts whether in North Carolina or out West. It's quite affordable and is conveniently located just under an hour from Ashville.

Super small mountain with an awesome vibe. Super cool seeing people skiing and snowboarding so far away from the "normal" places people do that, and the intimate size makes it feel like a backyard hill.... More

The Cat is awesome! Small but it hits home when you need a place to ski in western NC. Small compared to Colorado’s resorts, but who can complain at under 70 for a day ticket. Crowded, icy, and very hard to access, but overall an awesome resort that really is one of a kind.... More
