Overall

3.5

One of the larger resorts close to New York City, Camelback is mostly for beginners and intermediates and is an ideal family destination. It's known for its Camelback Resort Lodge which offers ski, stay and play packages including access to their indoor waterpark. Camelback's convenient location makes for a great weekend trip but get there mid-week or outside of the holidays for some crowd-free fresh turns.

January and February are the best months to visit Camelback as the cold weather will keep any natural snowfall and for the resort to make snow.

For beginners

Camelback has plenty of suitable trails for beginners. First timers can start off on the extensive beginner area that spreads across the entire base area. Those with a bit more experience can make their way to the top of the mountain and cruise down the few long green trails Camelback has on offer. Our favorite for beginners include the nice and wide slopes of Julius Caesar to Honeymoon where there is enough room to weave between other skiers.

For intermediates

Intermediates can find a number of blues to cruise across the mountain while park rats can test their skills on the large terrain park mid-mountain where there's even a fun airbag if you dare. Our favorite run for intermediates would have to be Nile Mile. Located off the fast Stevenson Express lift, this long blue gently curves and meanders from the summit down to the base.

For experts

Advanced skiers and snowboarders will most likely get bored quickly at Camelback with the limited amount of black trails here, most of which are not-so challenging. The trail layout isn't great either with 6 black runs on the east side of the mountain and just 2 on the west side and involves skiing between less experienced skiers to get to the other side. If we had to pick one, Cliffhanger is the best run for experts as it's the only double diamond run here and is a straight shot with no interruptions.

Find freshies

Given its close proximity to Philadelphia and New York City, Camelback sees plenty of weekend warriors who tend track out freshies rather quickly. To find the best powder, visit during the week after fresh snow.

Ditch the crowds

All beginner areas and any intermediate areas that lead to beginner areas can get quite crowded so it's best to avoid these spots if you're more experienced. Weekends and holidays also see long lift queues so go in the singles lines to get on the mountain faster.

Non skiers

Non-skiers will have a range of fun activities to do while their counterparts on the slopes including tubing, zip lining, riding the mountain coaster, swimming at the Aquatopia waterpark or just getting a spa treatment.

Families

Families are well catered for at Camelback where they'll find a wide range of great facilities from family changing rooms to large family lodgings. The real drawcard for families is the Camelback Resort Lodge which offers the great ski, stay and play packages including access to the Aquatopia waterpark. Kids will also love the other fun activities such as tubing, zip lining and riding the mountain coaster. Camelback also has a great ski school for first timers and a nursery for the little ones who are not yet old enough to ski.

This is the resort I learned how to snowboard. However its very small so will out grow it within weeks of learning snowboarding. Their diamonds are square in other resorts. The snow is not that good unless it has snowed big couple days before. However its a great mountain for beginners and kids. If you are planning a family trip where you have... More

This is a well rounded Mt that is a destination for many people on vacation from NYC or Philadelphia. With a great series of trails and lifts for all skill levels. The only gripe is the limited handicap bathrooms and long lift lines as the lay out could be improved.... More

I have been a season pass holder/ frequent guest at Camelback Mountain and resort for 5+ years. This year has been the most unorganized, lack of safety, incompetent employee ran I have ever witnessed! Our first trip arriving to the mountain we were told contracts were changed for season pass holders in October of 2020 and we no longer qualified for... More

My second favorite in the poconos behind blue mountain. They have some steep stuff, but the vertical is not too impressive, which means a lot of time spent on lifts. Overall, a good place for a day trip, but if your coming from the Philly area, I would go to blue instead... More

This is my go to day trip mountain. Nice fast lifts and great learner area. Good quality rentals and quick lines. The terrain park could use more features, but easy access. Some of the best staff around. Snow making and grooming always on point. For a mid size pocono mountain it gets the job done. Black runs are short but steep. Well lit trails for... More

A very nice learning ground and a day trip destination for a greater NY and Philadelphia residents and visitors. Natural snowfall is very limited here, the mountain relies on the snowmaking, very successful in quickly producing large amounts of snow covering the whole mountain. Terrain is various enough, 2 lodges provide satiafactoey basic... More
