Overall

4.5

Whiteface is known for its gnarly expert terrain and has even hosted the Winter Olympics not once but twice! It has the second-largest vertical drop in the East and while its black diamonds are quite the drawcard for advanced skiers, beginners will be pretty happy with their dedicated area. The upper mountain can suffer from wind exposure and while sometimes the lack of snowfall and poor snow quality can be questionable, there is extensive snowmaking on 99% of its trails (besides The Slides and The Glades). There is no accommodation at the base of the mountain so make your way over to Lake Placid after a day on the slopes.

ICEFACE. Doesn't take too many runs to see how this mountain got this nickname. I can certainly see why some wouldn't want to ski here often but the terrain is challenging and fun. The coolest part of visiting here is seeing the different nearby attractions related to the 1980 Olympics. Recommended for a family vacation to see the sites and get... More

Beautiful mountain in the Adirondacks! I went there last year but unfortunately at a time where I completely understood how it got it’s nickname “iceface”. That mountain did not have as many runs as I thought it would which was disappointing. We were still able to make the best of it and enjoy our time!... More

Whiteface, a true skiers mountain. The mountain does a great job in snowmaking, grooming and providing quality skiing. You get a lot of skiing in at Whiteface as compared to most other areas, largely due to the skiable vertical feet. Upgrades to Bear Mountain and an excellent Ski School make the area ideal for beginners. If the mountain if... More

Best resort in NYS, been going there for years with family and friends. Yes can be icy but ive also seen some amazing conditions over the years as well. Sometimes you just have to follow the storms! They have also been renovating here and adding new stuff as well, ill keep going back for sure!... More

Great expert mountain with a large variety of black diamond trails. Steep groomed trails, steep race trails, steep trees, steep bumps, long steeps. You get the picture. Long runs unlike any other on the east coast. Skyward rivals any in bound trail in the us for beauty, fun and fast , smooth pitch. It also can brag about it was an Olympic... More

One of the best places in the East. Am Olympic mountain, steep and ice. Lift prices are high and gets crowded. The town is great. Look for the powder days or ski after mid March, because is less crowded and lower ticket prices. Unfortunately they don't allow uphill skinning.... More

Great place to find some steeps in New York, there is a reason the Olympics was held here. The staff is super friendly and they do a pretty good job on their parks. Placid Lake is pretty fun spot to chill and has a good amount of options to recoup some calories and wash them down. ... More

Depends what time of the year you are there. Spring is the best. The cloud spin lodge is great for a beer or two as well. Slides are the best if you can get there when they are open.... More

My experience at Whiteface has always been a fantastic one. I have always enjoyed my time on the mountain except sometimes it can get quite icy. But I've been going there for years now and will continue to go for years to come!... More
