Whiteface is known for its gnarly expert terrain and has even hosted the Winter Olympics not once but twice! It has the second-largest vertical drop in the East and while its black diamonds are quite the drawcard for advanced skiers, beginners will be pretty happy with their dedicated area. The upper mountain can suffer from wind exposure and while sometimes the lack of snowfall and poor snow quality can be questionable, there is extensive snowmaking on 99% of its trails (besides The Slides and The Glades). There is no accommodation at the base of the mountain so make your way over to Lake Placid after a day on the slopes.

Love this resort!!! Went every powder day last year and can't get enough of it. Probably driving up there today to see the snowfall as they get the mountain ready for the 17/18 ski season. ... More

Skiing at Whiteface is a quintessential Eastern US experience. You have The Slides, icy conditions, terrain parks for those who want - not me and some great cruisers. Be careful on cold windy days!

Whiteface is a great mountain to develope your skills at. The conditions are usually great and there is a wide variety of terrain to choose from. The staff is professional and the scenery is the best New York has to offer.

Only two hours from the house and they have the best kids learning area that I have ever seen and I have been to more than my fair share of ski resorts.

I love Lake Placid, and nearby Whiteface Mountain. Lake Placid has put many years of effort into making itself a beautiful and desirable destination. And while you will still find the tacky t-shirt shop, they have a lot more

Simply put, the best challenging terrain on the east. Can drive from NY. The nostolgic olympic village has great food, cheap lodging, good nightlife, and plenty of activities off the mountain. Perfect in winter or summer. Village is always filled with nice people Local & tourist)ready to spark up a conversation.

It's a former Olympic mountain with great trails and beautiful scenery. It's also close enough to drive to for the family.
